Growing up in Michigan, siblings Jen Bies Duffy and Deucie Bies watched as their parents built their family business, all while raising two kids and living lives filled with generosity, love and passion. In the late 1970s, James and Lorraine Bies opened their first auto repair shop. Over the next 20 years, they grew their business into a franchise containing over 40 stores in surrounding states. While their relentless efforts to grow their family business was met with success, it is their actions of always striving to help others they will be most remembered for.  

Community support has always played a crucial role in maintaining the standard of excellence at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC). For close to 30 years, Orlando Health ORMC has served as Central Florida’s only Level One Trauma Center, providing life-saving care for patients when it matters most.  

Born and raised in Orlando, Sallie Layton Douglas found fulfillment through helping others. Giving back was a way of life, later influencing her career in healthcare and involvement with the community. Although Sallie has passed away, her memory and the charitable contributions she left behind continue to impact the Central Florida area.

After enjoying a midday lunch at home with her husband, Frank, Ginny got up from her kitchen table and knocked over her glass of water. Surprised at the occurrence, she realized she had no control over her right arm. Frank immediately called 911, recognizing she had all the signs of a stroke. When the paramedics arrived, they confirmed Ginny was having a massive stroke, and airlifted her to Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) where she received emergency surgery to remove the blockage.

This past April, JoAnn Nestor, along with fellow members of the Bayfront Health Philanthropy Council hosted more than 60 female business and community leaders in St. Petersburg, Florida and the surrounding Pinellas County to introduce them to the mission of Bayfront Health. The evening’s discussion centered around the progress and growth of Bayfront Health since its purchase in 2020. Hospital leaders also shared plans for future growth of Bayfront Health, including several advanced programs and institutes. Philanthropic support plays a key role in these advancements by funding our facilities with cutting-edge technology, allowing team members to serve our community with the highest level of care available.
