Thomas and Mary James Make $2 Million Gift, the Largest in Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital History

Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital is thrilled to announce a transformative donation of $2 million from esteemed Tampa-area residents Thomas “Tom” and Mary James.

Tom James is the Chairman Emeritus of Raymond James Financial, a prominent diversified financial services company, and a well-known philanthropist in the region. This remarkable act of generosity is the single largest gift to Orlando Health Bayfront to date and will have a profound impact on the hospital’s ability to deliver high-quality care and enhance the health and well-being of the community. In 2006, Orlando Health Bayfront established the James Heart Center, following the James’ first gift of $1 million to aid the cost of providing cutting-edge cardiovascular care to Pinellas County and beyond. Tom and Mary’s most recent gift will further the development and growth of the James Heart Center by expediting the addition of a Cardiac Hybrid Operating Suite.

Cardiac Hybrid Operating Suite

A Cardiac Hybrid Operating Suite combines image- guided interventional technology with a traditional operating room. This allows surgeons operating on complex endovascular procedures to convert to open procedures without delay in the event of potential complications that may arise during surgery. Additionally, the space and technology in the hybrid operating suite lends itself to surgeons from multiple areas of expertise working in tandem, allowing multi-stage procedures to be completed in fewer hospital visits. This is a massive step forward in efficiency and accessibility for patients, as well as a reduction in hospital stays, shorter recovery times and less stress on the body.

The James Heart Center

The James’ contributions to the Heart Center have launched Orlando Health Bayfront to the forefront of cardiac care in Pinellas County. The James Heart Center

· Offers more cardiac testing and treatment space than any other provider in Pinellas County.

· Features a full array of the most current lifesaving procedures, diagnostics and treatments in the Cardiac Cath Lab.

· Contains advanced video integration systems, which allow surgeons immediate access to imaging, lab results and other vital information.
