Longtime Orlando residents and friends, Sonja Ruiz and Kathy Newlin support Orlando Health for one main reason: “Today’s technology changes so much and we want to make sure the hospitals have the things they need,” says Sonja.

Both Sonja and Kathy have connections to Orlando Health, beyond being residents of the City Beautiful. Sonja had both of her sons at Orange Memorial. Kathy also delivered two of her children at Orange Memorial. Kathy worked in radiology for Orlando Health as an x-ray technician for many years as well.

“I love seeing what’s going on at the hospital and I like to keep up,” Kathy says. “Orlando Health is great for our community.”

Both Sonja and Kathy support Orlando Health by directing their gifts to support the Area of Greatest Need, which means they want the Foundation to use funds where they are needed the most. “We like to support technology and new things,” adds Sonja. “The technology is night and day compared to many years ago and it changes so quickly. We know the hospitals want to keep up and that’s why we support where they need money the most.”

Sonja and Kathy are both attendees of the Orlando Health Foundation Speaker Series. The Foundation is proud to offer the Speaker Series to educate and inform our donors about various healthcare topics of interest. These luncheon sessions include presentations from our medical experts who share the latest on leading-edge technology, life-saving medical procedures and the future of healthcare.
