Planned Giving - Bequests

The beginning of a new year oftentimes causes us to reflect on things that are most important to us: our family, our health and our goals and plans for the future. Possibly after thinking on these things, you have encouraged yourself to create or make changes to your will in 2018. We hope in your planning, you also consider a bequest for the Orlando Health Foundation.

Possibly after thinking on these things, you have encouraged yourself to create or make changes to your will in 2018. We hope in your planning, you also consider a bequest for the Orlando Health Foundation.

Including Orlando Health in your will or trust provides a lasting and significant impact in the lives of patients at Orlando Health for years to come.  It is an investment in the future, but something you can do to make a difference today.

Charitable bequests may take many forms, including:

Outright (specific) Bequest: This is a gift of a particular amount of money or item of property (for example: "I bequeath $25,000 to the Orlando Health Foundation.").

Residuary Bequest: The residue of an estate is the amount remaining after all specific bequests have been distributed; the exact amount will not be known until the final accounting is completed. This is an easy way to include our organization along with loved ones, and it can be a full or percentage bequest (for example: "I give one-third of the residue of my estate to the Orlando Health Foundation.").

Contingent Bequests: You can name a secondary beneficiary to receive property in the event the primary beneficiary is no longer living (for example: "I bequeath $10,000 to my father, but if he has predeceased me, I direct the $10,000 be paid to the Orlando Health Foundation.").

Beneficiary Designations: Your estate can save both income taxes and estate taxes if you name a charitable organization such as the Orlando Health Foundation as beneficiary of part or all of your IRA or other retirement accounts. Family members might keep only 30 cents on the dollar, after taxes, from these assets. You can also list the Orlando Health Foundation as beneficiary on most insurance policies or structure certain bank accounts to “transfer on death” to a charity such as Orlando Health.

If you have already made the decision to honor Orlando Health with a bequest in your estate, we encourage you to let us know so we can express our gratitude and ensure your wishes are documented for the future.  For this or for questions on how your giving can make a difference, contact The Office of Planned Giving at 321.841.5194 or email [email protected].
