The Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute brings together the two most respected orthopedic and sports medicine practices in Central Florida: the Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic, with eight decades of service to the community, and Orlando Health, home to the region’s only Level One Trauma Center for adults and children.

“With all of the pieces in place – physician training, top quality providers and the busiest trauma program in the state – we expect the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic hospital will care for more patients upon opening than any other orthopedic facility in the Southeast,” said David Strong, president and CEO, Orlando Health.

Orthopedic Specialty Hospital

Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute will move into its new spacious, state-of-the-art home in 2023. This move will create the only orthopedic-specific hospital in the Southeast, providing premier trauma, sports medicine and orthopedic medical care in one location.

Orlando Health has built a remarkable, finely tuned team of employed orthopedic physicians, radiologists and anesthesiologists to provide a pristine elective experience for patients. The decision to include imaging and anesthesia in-house through employed rather than contracted clinicians is a deliberate shift in orthopedic care that will allow us to deliver immediate results for physicians and patients. Caregivers working together in unison, to achieve perfection, not only elevates our healthcare organization, but forces our competitors to rise to the occasion as well – ultimately leading to better care throughout our state.

Research and Education

With an award-winning orthopedic residency program, graduates leave Orlando Health with the skills and talent to practice anywhere in the world. However, our ability to attract the best surgical residents, focusing on continued research and expertise in orthopedic care, increases the number of orthopedic surgeons who remain here in Central Florida as they fall in love with the area and make greater Orlando their permanent home. This consistent creation of top talent leads to top-tier healthcare.

Some of the most notable additions to the Institute, benefiting physicians throughout the world as well as those in our residency department, lie in the research and education opportunities currently being built on the 7th floor.

  • Four virtually connected operating suites that can be used to train surgeons around the world
  • A bio-skills lab for research and training, allowing residents to practice intricate procedures with the oversight of board-certified surgeons
  • Conference space suited for hosting medical educational forums, including a 118-seat auditorium

Orlando Health will continue to offer orthopedics at multiple community locations, but the Institute will house all the expertise necessary to treat any orthopedic condition. By challenging ourselves, and everyone else in the region, we’re ushering in a new pinnacle of orthopedic care not available anywhere else in Florida.

“Every inch of this orthopedic medical complex was designed to meet the rapidly increasing demand for orthopedic services,” added Carlos Carrasco, president, Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute and senior vice president, Orlando Health. “We expect the Institute to become the standard by which all other orthopedics programs will be measured.”
