Caregivers Help Turn Challenging Journeys Into Hopeful Moments
At Orlando Health, caregivers do more than just provide treatment. They also offer hope and encouragement that can be instrumental to the healing process. Whether it be a clinical or non-clinical team member – an empathetic smile, a friendly voice or a motivating demeanor can improve a patient’s day for the better.
One such example of this is Orlando Health Cancer Institute team members, who were recently recognized by a patient through the Foundation’s Honor a Caregiver program. This program provides a mechanism for patients or their family members to communicate their deep appreciation for the care received by donating to their hospital of choice in honor of a caregiver who made a difference in their medical journey.
In Bette’s 20 years at Orlando Health, she has seen patients undergo tedious cancer treatments. In one of their most vulnerable and difficult times in life, surrounded by chemotherapy, radiation, surgical oncology, nurses, nutritionists, therapists and counselors, each patient is treated as if they were a member of our own family. The vast number of appointments and ongoing tests can be overwhelming at times, but the extra steps taken by team members does not go unnoticed.
After the donation was made in Bette’s and Charlotte’s honor, a member of the Foundation team surprise recognized them for their impact, and to let them know how important they made this patient feel. When being acknowledged, Bette shared, “I love working at Orlando Health because we always provide patients with the most leading-edge technology.”
Consider making a gift to the Orlando Health Foundation or Orlando Health Foundation West Florida in honor of a caregiver(s). Your generosity not only honors and recognizes those who provided excellent treatment, it also allows us to continue providing life-saving care to our community.
