Open to healthcare workers in the community, the conference contained lectures, hands-on demonstrations and labs and a tour of the Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation located at Orlando Regional Medical Center–where patients with spinal cord injuries re-learn practical skills necessary for life after discharge. The facility helps patients learn how to use utensils, appliances and other tasks that require fine motor skills that may have been affected by their injury.

About PVA

PVA was founded in 1946 and focuses on issues involving the special needs of its members –veterans of the armed forces who have experienced spinal cord injury or dysfunction. As part of their mission of advocating through research and education, the PVA awarded Orlando Health a grant of $15,000 to facilitate the conference. The PVA has also helped fund the purchase of the equipment used in the Rehabilitation Institute.
