New Noninvasive Technology for Liver Cancer Treatment

New Noninvasive Technology for Liver Cancer Treatment

July 10, 2026

New technology in cancer care continues to emerge, offering patients a better balance between aggressive treatment while minimally impacting quality of life.

Through the generosity of our donor community, we are making new strides in the treatment of liver tumors with the introduction of the Edison Histotripsy Machine, a noninvasive histotripsy technology.

A new type of cancer treatment, histotripsy focuses ultrasound waves to destroy tissue found in liver tumors without a single surgical incision. Treatment can take anywhere from 10 to 50 minutes per tumor and energy created by a programmed robot travels through the body to targeted areas. Unlike other forms of therapy that utilize focused energy, histotripsy causes mechanical cell death which means the risk of thermal damage to surrounding tissue is eliminated.

When it comes to cancer care, leading-edge technology is not just a label; it’s a lifeline to hope. This innovative treatment offers patients a noninvasive path forward and provides those who call Central Florida home access to the highest quality of care in their own backyard. By investing in this technology, our donors and community partners not only provide new equipment; they also help offer the gift of faster recovery without the trauma of surgery.

“When precision science meets precision medicine, cancer care becomes less invasive and more impactful,” said Imran Siddiqui, MD, chief of surgery. “Histotripsy has the potential to revolutionize complex cancer surgery to make it noninvasive and more accessible to patients.”
