Every year, local member hospitals select a “Champion” within their community to represent children treated at their local children's hospital. These ambassadors dedicate their year to advocating for the charitable needs of children's hospitals across.
Meet Owen
Owen's life began with a challenging diagnosis: a congenital heart defect. At less than 2 weeks old, he underwent open-heart surgery at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, the first of many medical hurdles he would face. At 11 months old, during an additional surgery out of state, Owen experienced multiple strokes that left him paralyzed on the left side of his body and suffering from frequent epileptic seizures. His family then returned to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer for his neurological care.
At the time, Owen was experiencing 20-30 seizures per day. Thanks to the highly skilled team, he has since had two successful brain surgeries and is now seizure-free. Through physical and occupational therapy, and the almost 10 different specialties he continues to see, Owen is growing stronger each day. His family is grateful for his care and calls the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer team their second family.
