In the 10 years since opening its doors to the Central Florida community, Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies has celebrated a number of milestones and achievements. With more than 138,000 babies born, including 2,778 sets of twins and 105 sets of triplets, Winnie Palmer Hospital is one of the busiest labor and delivery units in the country. Also, in 2014, with the addition of 30 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) beds (thanks to you, our generous donors), the Alexander Center for Neonatology became the largest NICU under one roof in the United States. 2006

Opens with 30 labor & delivery rooms and 112 NICU beds, making it the fourth largest NICU in the United States.

2007

Celebrates its first anniversary with the birth of over 14,000 babies, making the hospital’s labor and delivery unit the busiest in Florida.

Receives the Award of Excellence, the highest honor given from the Downtown Orlando Affiliation at the Golden Brick Awards, recognizing the hospital for its contributions to community life and the workplace in downtown Orlando.

2010

The NICU is renamed the Alexander Center for Neonatology to honor neonatologist Dr. Gregor Alexander.

2012

Twelfth set of quadruplets delivered on March 29.

2013

The NICU celebrates 35 years of excellence in providing the highest level of care to premature babies.

JetBlue Airways, Golf Channel and Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation commit to raise $2.5 million over the next five years to help expand the NICU.

One hundred thousandth baby delivered on September 19.

2014

NICU expansion, named Haley Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, opens, adding 30 beds and making it the largest single-site NICU in the United States under one roof. This expansion was funded completely through philanthropy, with the help of Roy and Dee Haley, Helen Leon, Tom and Joan Kalimanis, Hugh and Janet Thompson, the Oakstone Foundation and the William A. Steele Foundation, Golf Channel, Marriott Vacations Worldwide, JetBlue and Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation.

Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies is honored as one of the best children’s hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report (2014-2015) with rankings in eight specialties including #22 in neonatology.

2015

The NICU celebrates 40th anniversary and the more than 40,000 tiny babies treated at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital since 1975.

The NICU at Winnie Palmer Hospital receives the Beacon Award for Excellence, an honor given by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses to recognize individual units that distinguish themselves by improving every facet of patient care. Only 44 nursing units in the state of Florida have received Beacon recognition.

2016

Recognized as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology.
