“Our goal is to provide the latest care, in the most convenient locations, in the most compassionate and nurturing environment,” says Dr. Daniel Buchholz, Chief of Radiation Oncology. “We know many patients prefer not to drive downtown, so we are adding satellite locations to provide easier access to leading-edge care for patients throughout the region.”

Having satellite locations for cancer care will have a tremendous impact through the area, but there is a great need to continue to provide doctors in the satellite offices to connect with the team at the Cancer Center downtown. A robust conference room exists at the Cancer Center downtown location and the Foundation recently named it in honor of Jim and Valeria’s past support of the Cancer Center.

While in the process of selling his business and Jim and Valeria were looking for places to give back to. Jim says, “I wanted to choose organizations and causes that are important to us.”

Jim and Valeria’s son Christopher Barker happens to be a radiation oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and he guided his parents to support the Cancer Center at Orlando Health.

“I remember asking our son what would be a worthwhile area to support and he told us to support research,” Valeria recalls. “So that’s how we started with Orlando Health.”

As long-time friends and neighbors of Clarence “Buck” Brown, MD, former president and CEO of the Cancer Center, the decision to support Orlando Health was easy after talking with their son Christopher.

“We’re glad we’ve been able to support the Cancer Center,” Jim adds. “The community is very important to us.”

The conference room named in their honor is equipped with technology that allows doctors located downtown to communicate, collaborate and review images and files with teams at the satellite locations – currently located in Ocoee, near Health Central Hospital and at South Lake Hospital, with plans to expand to other areas soon
