Dr. Phillips Charities announces $250,000 gift to Orlando Regional Medical Center’s Level One Trauma Center

The grant was the first annual gift made in honor of Jim Hinson, former chairman of Dr. Phillips, Inc. from 1990 – 2015.

Dr. Phillips Charities announced a grant of $250,000 to Orlando Regional Medical Center’s Level One Trauma Center. The Dr. Phillips name has been a major economic and philanthropic presence in the Central Florida community since the turn of the 20th century. To honor the legacy of the Phillips family and its support of organizations that live up to the motto "to help others help themselves", Dr. Phillips Charities has invested more than $170 million in grants, pledges and program-related investments to worthy nonprofit organizations.

The grant was the first annual gift made in honor of Jim Hinson, former chairman of Dr. Phillips, Inc. from 1990 –2015. Dr. Phillips Charities established the James A. Hinson Leadership Award this month with a commitment of granting $2,500,000 over the next 10 years.

“We selected Orlando Health’s trauma center for this grant to ensure that it can continue to put its staff’s training to work to serve our community every day, and in times of intense need, now and in the future,” Jim Ferber, Chairman, Dr. Phillips Charities. “Jim had a passion for supporting first responders, and would have been very pleased that the first recipient of this grant in his name went to the dedicated trauma team at Orlando Health.”

“We are honored to be the recipient of this grant,” said John Bozard, president, Orlando Health Foundation. “Jim Hinson was a dear friend who was committed to helping the community, so this gift is very special to us.”
