Thomas built his career in architecture. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Thomas designed and managed over $2.5 billion in construction worldwide, specializing in the design of medical facilities and hospitals.

Thomas worked with many of the world's most acclaimed medical facilities, including Orlando Health, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinics, Shands Hospital (University of Florida), Mount Sinai Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Hospital.

Many of Thomas' projects were the first of their kind in the research and development of high technology applications including the first magnetic resonance imaging facility, artificial heart labs, and planning simulation modeling for healthcare systems.

He was particularly proud of his specialization in the design of neonatal units; he eventually became the Project Architect for the design and development of Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, FL.

Mr. Carney’s passion of architecture and the health of children will live-on through his legacy at Arnold Palmer Hospital.
